I'm ready to do something... something big. By all means this could be taken in a million different ways but the general sense of this statement carries weight in all my endeavors. After visiting friends in Boston and New York City, seeing amazing artwork of all types, eating glorious food, drinking brilliant drinks, and enjoying the best people watching on this planet, I came back inspired to say the least.
Last night, I had one of those deep, thought provoking, inspirational conversations with my special lady friend. It went deep into the morning hours and we talked about profound ideas of why we do what we do. Not to sound too cliche but we helped each other define the mission of our passions. I'm not going to go down that road for now, but just want to let some steam out, that's all. Wow. I'm feeling it right now, this coffee tastes AMAZING! I have a lot of things I want and need to do right now. Paintings, murals, travel plans, workshops, interviews, shows, commissions. It's all going now. I'm in the process of planning an epic mural project with the Prodigal Son Initiative in Park Hill, a collaborative, community, mural project bigger than anything in Colorado, and the region (coming this summer!) We'll see what transpires. This could be big, real big...
Lot's of painting commissions are lining up, this definitely keeps me busy and pays the bills. I have painting ideas out my ass, I have so many. I want to create for me, for you, for everyone. There are so many possibilities, it's a full time job just to structure and give form to these glimpse images. Light flashes flickering and moving in my mind, an evolving mecca of inspiration. My hope is to get it all down on some canvas or anything really. What's next? Well, we got Sketch Wine Bar. I'm showing there in May, possibly canvas prints of paintings, maybe a couple original paintings....we'll see. I'm currently represented by The Marketplace at Belmar, a conveniently placed retail shop selling Colorado made, Colorado themed knick knacks and artwork. Three new paintings up and ready to sell!
At some point this summer, as I have been pondering, I have to go big. I'm thinking three huge paintings (for me that's like 45 in by 60 in). They will be a culmination of the cityscapes, with animals and figures as subjects, abstract, hyper-realism, yummy! There is no reason why I can't absolutely blow people away with these, something big...
I have been planning a few art workshops with various after school programs in the Denver Metro. The Gold Crown Enrichment program continues to enrich my life in Lakewood, I love working with the kids and staff at The Crown. It's all about the kids.... Interviews are in the making for my short radio slot at KGNU radio. I am now a field recorder with their Metro Arts show. I hope to cover various art happenings this summer and promote the best of the west. lovely!
What else..
Travel...It's been a few years since my last trip around the globe and the itch is coming back. The travel bug has been biting its way back into my body, infecting my mind. So the story goes: I applied for a Fulbright research grant for the last two years and got rejected twice. It's been a long, grueling, process of applying to this SOB, and I'm done with it. Done and f#$% done. But, along the way, I learned some valuable skills in the art of grant writing, made some great contacts in Colombia, and have furnished out a comprehensive, community mural project in Medellin, Colombia. With or without a Fulbright, I have committed myself to doing this project and it looks like it's going to happen....this year. Anybody want to fund it?
Another solo show in August awaits....More commissions abound....More amazing cups of COFFEE to be had....This is the life
I'm an artist, just being honest...
peace to my people
